Point of Connection, featuring the work of San Antonio artist Ben Mata is currently on view in the Main Gallery at BLUEorange Art Gallery. Mata’s aluminum diptych like panels create a visual dialog among themselves; a “point of connection”. The quite illuminate paintings relate to each other through Mata’s use of color, line and negative space.
Mata works on aluminum panels using artist oils and power tools to manipulate the surface. The luminous metallic surface allows him to create a variety of textures and depths. Mata claims that this allows for a process of discovery; he is led by intuitive responses to the surface which guide him in the execution of the work.
Exhibition will run from May 18th through June 15th, 2013
